Problem
The compressed air system was over 25 years old, and very energy inefficient due to competing compressors. Energy prices increased from $0.069 to $0.139 kWh, driving the cost of compressed air electricity for the site from $350,000 to over $700,000 per annum.
Solution
Replace the existing seven compressors with:
- 3 new Ingersoll-Rand 2 stage IRN 160 KCC compressors (two operating, one back-up)
- 2 Hankison HPRP1750 refrigerated dryers with inbuilt filtration to improve air quality
- All equipment was installed using 100mm Aluminium Transair piping
Results
- 1,429 MWh of Annual Electricity savings
- 69% Reduction in Electrical consumption
- $72k Value of NSW Government Funding – Energy Savings
- Certificates (ESCs) obtained (3300 ESCs)
